LITURGICAL CHRISTIAN WORSHIP
At 10:45a.m. each Sunday we have formal worship including Bell Choir, Chancel Choir,
Congregational Singing, Lectionary Bible Readings for each Sunday, Preaching,
Children’s Sermon, Holy Communion, Offertory, Prayers. All are welcome.
PRAISE BAND AND INFORMAL WORSHIP
At 9:00 a.m. each Sunday we have our Praise Worship. Our band includes background,
keyboards, saxophone, trumpet, bass, and vocals in various mixes. We also have
scripture reading, a sermon, offertory, Holy Communion and prayers. All are welcome.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION FOR ALL AGES
We offer various classes and study groups throughout the year. Education and learning are important
elements for Disciples of Christ. One of the meanings of “Disciple” is “learner.”
Disciples of Christ follow the tradition of dedicating children to God in infancy and
baptizing them as they become old enough to have some comprehension of the meaning of Christian
faith and baptism. In dedicating children, we lift up the entire family for support in raising the child in a

TRANSFORMING BIBLE STUDIES
These are adult studies of the Bible that involve group participation and involvement in which we try to
both “ask questions of the Bible text” and allow the “Bible text to ask questions of us. We study not just for
information or historical interest but for human transformation toward healing and wholeness contained in
the Christian message. This is a method of Bible Study developed by the late Walter Wink, with whom our
pastor studied in seminary.
PRAYING HEARTS MINISTRY
This is a fellowship of prayer involving members of our church who receive emails
weekly with various prayer requests. They are committed to daily prayer support for those in special

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
We hold this Bible School for
children during one week each
summer. At the end the children
participate in Sunday worship by
performing songs learned at VBS.

Sisters Bible Study

group that meets weekly in the

PREPARATION FOR BAPTISM
Any one desiring to be baptized is
prepared for Christian commitment by
having a class with the pastor on
Christian faith and life, the teachings of
the faith, and the role of the church.
PRAYER SHAWLS MINISTRY
“Knitters and Crocheters” in our church
knit and crochet “shawls” for people
while praying for them. These shawls
are then taken to these folks while in
hospital, or while they are home bound,
or in a special time of loss or crisis.
AL-ANON MEETINGS ON MONDAY EVENINGS AT 8:30
Strength and hope for friends and families of problem drinkers in order to solve their common problems.
We believe alcoholism is a family illness and that changed attitudes can aid recovery.
Disciples Center For Human Wholeness
Next door to the church building is a large Victorian house known as the Disciples Center. It used to
house Health Right Medical Clinic which has now been move into a more serviceable medical doctors’
facility. We use the center for mental health support groups and other special meetings. Our mental
health support groups include:
All support groups are free. They are informal, welcoming, and safe. Refreshments will be served as
- Living with Depression or Anxiety (for those suffering these common issues and who can
find support, encouragement, sharing and education in these matters. Is there help and is there
hope? What can we learn from each other and each other’s experiences? (WEDNESDAYS AT
1:00 P.M. STARTING MAY 15)
- First Light A Support program designed for individuals (confidential and supportive)
considering and seeking entering into a program of addiction retreatment.
- Gabriel Project Meeting babies and young families needs for support, diapers, clothes and
baby care product, including cribs and car seats.
- Support Group for Families Dealing with Addiction Meets the second and fourth Mondays
of each month at 6:00pm.
- Mental Health Support Groups
- Senior Access Point
- Care Givers Support Group those of us involved in full time care with people we love who
require it. Such situations can arise from some physically debilitating disease, Alzheimer’s,
senile dementia, or any other condition that requires 24/7 attention. Being a caregiver is
emotionally draining and physically exhausting. But we have much to offer each other in the
way of encouragement and insights from our own experience. (MONDAYS AT 5:00 P.M.
STARTING MAY 13).
- Youth Listening Post (for middle and high school students, a weekly support group with

Relay For LIfe
We are extremely active in the
cancer support and fund raising
initiative known as Relay for Life. We
have our own team and members
who work with the organization year

SAFE SANCTUARY POLICY
(All members who work with youth or vulnerable adults are given annual training in
understanding the various forms of child abuse, boundaries training, and rules formation and
accountability training in this work. Our congregation is committed to creating “safe space” for all
children and vulnerable adults..

From Earliest days, our congregation has been an integral part of the New Martinsville community,
government and civic organizations, business and Industry. We have celebrated God's work in our
world by serving God's children in numerous ways.
MARTHA'S KITCHEN is a ministry of service especially designed for those getting out of hospital
(or for some other reason) are unable to get about to prepare meals or run errands. The goal of
this ministry is threefold: 1) Provide meals in homes when needed. 2) Run important errands
such as picking up medicines or needed supplies. 3) Provide needed transportation to hospital or
